Tamir

In May 2024, 4-year-old Tamir was diagnosed with Wilms tumor, a rare kidney cancer. His diagnosis quickly became more serious when the disease progressed to stage 4 and spread to his thoracic spine, making his treatment complex and critical. Tamir underwent radiation and aggressive chemotherapy as part of a clinical trial at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, facing each challenge with remarkable bravery.

Tamir’s mom, Angelica, had lost her husband less than a year before Tamir’s diagnosis, and the family suddenly faced overwhelming emotional and financial challenges. The cost of transportation into New York City for treatment, along with the high cost of groceries, created a heavy burden during an already difficult time.

The Jay Fund was honored to step in and provide support for essential needs. Uber gift cards helped the family with transportation, grocery gift cards eased the pressure of putting meals on the table, and through a partnership with Optimum, the family’s internet and cable service were covered — helping them stay connected to their medical team and loved ones.

Tamir was a little boy with a big heart. He loved superheroes — especially Spiderman — but his greatest hero was his older brother, who held his hand and comforted him through every difficult day and treatment. Tamir’s courage, joy and love left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.

Tamir passed away on July 4, 2025. His journey is a powerful reminder of the pain, fear and devastation families face when a child is diagnosed with cancer. It also highlights the importance of support that allows them to focus on what matters most: being together, finding comfort and never facing this battle alone.
