More than a number: a young man, his legacy and a promise
This year marks the 31st anniversary of the Tom Coughlin Jay Fund. We honor this milestone in memory of our namesake, Jay McGillis — a remarkable college football player who wore jersey number 31 for Coach Tom Coughlin at Boston College. When Jay was diagnosed with cancer, Coach Coughlin witnessed both his extraordinary courage and the profound challenges faced by his family.
After Jay’s passing, Coach Coughlin and his wife, Judy, made a promise to carry his legacy forward — a vow to support families facing childhood cancer and ensure they never have to face it alone.
Inspired by Jay’s strength and that commitment, they founded the Tom Coughlin Jay Fund to provide financial, emotional and practical support to families tackling childhood cancer.
Honoring the past, preparing for the future
Recognizing our 31st anniversary means honoring the work of the past three decades while preparing for the future ahead. With new diagnoses every day and evolving economic challenges, the demand is greater than ever for the Jay Fund’s critical services and support. This need will continue to grow — so we will, too.
Explore the milestone moments that shaped the Tom Coughlin Jay Fund over the past 31 years — and see how one mission has brought hope and support to families facing childhood cancer for more than three decades.
