New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin is most known for standing on the sidelines, leading the defending Super Bowl champions week in and week out.

But off the field, one of the coach’s life missions is to help others.

Every year, for the last seven years, Tom Coughlin has hosted the “Champions for Children Gala,” a fundraiser for his wonderful Jay Fund Foundation. The event raises a lot of money to help families of children with cancer.

It does a little good for the Giants, too.

Twenty years after Boston College safety Jay McGillis died of leukemia, his memory remains intertwined in countless lives, most notably Tom Coughlin’s. In his name, Coughlin established The Jay Fund. It has allotted $3.5 million in grants to families suffering through cancer’s financial costs.

Tom Coughlin’s Year to Remember got even more memorable here last night when the Giants’ admittedly star-struck coach was honored for his dedication to the U.S. Army.
